Singapore, 30 October 2017 – Ricoh Asia Pacific Pte Ltd organized the annual tree planting event in Sentosa Island on October 28, 2017. This event marked the thirteenth year of Ricoh participating in “Clean and Green Singapore” initiative, co-organized by NEA (National Environment Agency), CDCs (Community Development Councils), PUB (Public Utilities Board) and NParks (National Parks Board) for the community.
For Ricoh, this is not the first time to host its internal tree planting event in Sentosa Island. In November 2008, Ricoh has planted 200 trees at Mount Imbiah, in line with the Barclays Singapore Open 2008 in which Ricoh was one of the championship sponsors that year. This year, around 250 Ricoh staffs and their family members gathered together to build a greener homeland at Siloso Trail, under the Fort Siloso Skywalk. Opened to the public in July 2015 as part of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, the 11-storey, 181 meters long Fort Siloso Skywalk provides a scenic trek among the treetops. Participants could enjoy the panoramic view after the event.
“Today, we are honored to be back to extend Ricoh greenery effort at Siloso Trail, and also happy to revisit Sentosa Island to witness the fruit of our labor which Ricoh has planted 9 years ago, back in 2008.” said Mr. Kaz Goto, Managing Director of Ricoh Asia Pacific.
Ricoh planted many different types of Singapore-indigenous-trees during this event, such as Memecylon Edule (commonly known as Delek Air), Ardisia Elliptica (Mata-ayam), Podacarpus Polystachyus (Sea Teak) and other species at the stretch of Siloso Trail. Some of the trees are considered as endangered or critically endangered species. Not only Ricoh employees have got the opportunity to learn more about the local tree species and plant breeds, but their children have also enjoyed the ecological craft workshop.
